We are looking for an Administrator to join our Children’s Social Care team on a 37 hours per week, 12 month fixed term basis.
You don’t have to be a Social Worker to make a difference. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes to support our mainstream staff in Children’s Social Care. That’s why we are looking for an administrator to join us.
You’ll work as part of a small and dedicated business support team within Children’s Social Care, supporting Social Work colleagues who work with vulnerable children and young people in care, their parents, and carers in Somerset.

Here’s what you can expect to be doing
You will really be helping to improve the outcomes for vulnerable children and their families in Somerset by providing the admin support that allows the social workers in our Assessment and Safeguarding Teams to work directly with families.
The nature of the work is sensitive and highly confidential.
The work is varied and always busy, and we undertake a variety of tasks including;
• Database monitoring and updating
• Taking telephone calls
• Monitoring and responding to email requests
• Arranging transport
• Sending out letters and reports
• Arranging and minuting meetings
• Liaising with professionals from other agencies
Your dedicated line manager and team colleagues will support you with a comprehensive training and induction programme.
There are lots of opportunities for development and career progression within our Children’s Services Business Support teams. All of our current Business Support Officers and Business Support Managers joined us as Business Support Assistants. We also have many former Business Support colleagues who have been inspired to take an operational career path into Social Care and have been supported by us to do this.
A few things about you
It’s really important that you are passionate about helping to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people living in Somerset.
You’ll need to be a real team player with a ‘can do’ attitude, willing to learn new skills in a reactive and rewarding admin role.
As long as you have the aptitude to learn and develop your admin skills, and are familiar with Microsoft Office software, we’ll give you the tools and knowledge to do the job! We can also offer further training and development opportunities as part of the SCC Apprenticeship Programme. This training can be undertaken alongside your admin role,
The salary for this role is Grade 14, ranging from £19,264 to £20,043 per annum
Our working hours are Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 5.00pm and Friday 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
