You don’t have to be a Social Worker to make a difference. Our Business Support teams perform a vital role, carrying out a range of administrative tasks to support our social care colleagues. This, in turn, helps our Social Workers, Senior Social Work Assistants and Leaving Care Workers to focus on their vital role in supporting our Children Looked After (CLA) and young people moving towards independence (our Care Leavers).
The team is part of Somerset County Council’s wider Children’s Social Care (CSC) service, which works to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people, their families and carers in Somerset.
Here’s what you can expect to be doing
You will be providing proactive, business support as part of a dedicated team of administrators who support our Children Looked After (CLA) and Leaving Care (LC) teams, based in our South Somerset hub (Yeovil). We are currently working mostly from home, taking it in turns to work from the office on a rota basis. The nature of the work is sensitive and highly confidential; the tasks are varied, and you will be given full training and support to undertake them.
There are lots of opportunities for development and career progression within our Business Support teams. The majority of our current Children’s Social Care Business Support Officers and our Business Support Managers joined us as Administrators. We have many former Business Support colleagues who have been inspired to follow a career path into social care to work directly with children and young people, and they have been supported by us to do this.
A few things about you
It’s really important that you are passionate about helping to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people. As a Senior Business Support Assistant (Administrator) you will have a warm, friendly and non-judgemental manner. You will need to be calm and kind in difficult situations and conversations. Good organisational skills, willingness to learn, the ability to be a good team player, multitasking and the ability to work using your own initiative are all key to success within this role.
This is a fast paced, reactive role and you will be expected to manage a number of varied tasks at any one time. The workload can be busy and attention to detail is essential to ensure information is correct. You will need to be familiar with all Microsoft applications and experience of minute taking is essential.
The working hours for this role are 37 hours per week:
- Monday – Thursday (08:30 – 17:00hrs) and
- Friday (08:30 – 16:30) with a 1 hour lunch break.
We are able to offer a combination of home and office working (‘hybrid-working’).
If you would like to discuss the role further please feel free to contact Anna Harwood (AHarwood@somerset.gov.uk) on 01935 463592 or Joanne Jones (JEJones@somerset.gov.uk) on 01935 463658. We look forward to hearing from you.
Salary £19,264 to £20,043 per annum.
We recommend applying as soon as possible. Depending on the level of response, we anticipate conducting interviews ahead of the closing date.
