Advanced Nursery Apprentice opportunity in Bridgwater.

We are looking for a person who has a warm smiling face that makes every child feel special & loved. The candidate must want to have fun & be prepared to laugh daily. They must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues & parents &ensure that can switch to professional when required. The position will be working with children aged 2-5 years

Our new apprentice will be involved with a variety of duties, some of which will include:

  • Assisting with the planning of the curriculum
  • Helping to set up the playroom for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session
  • Ensuring that the setting is clean and hygienic
  • Acting as a keyworker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met
  • Keeping tapestry up to date using an iPad for every key child
  • Plan next steps and assist in the development of key children
  • Report and track areas of concern with the Manager and the setting SENCO
  • To advise the Nursery Manager of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary
  • To guide children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.
  • To attend staff meetings and staff training
  • To attend Parents evenings
  • To attend in-service training courses and meetings as required. Keep their knowledge up to date using Noodle Now
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Nursery Manager, in accordance with the nursery’s business plan/objectives

Have a sound knowledge of the following:

  • Development matters in the Early years Foundation Stage
  • The Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • The tracking process
  • Next steps
  • Key time planning
  • Spontaneous Observations
  • The settings policies and procedures
  • Health and Safety

Is to carry out risk assessments as necessary.

Work and adhere to the staff handbook and the nursery policies.

Must disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.

Desired skills

  • The ability to support and encourage children within a Nursery environment is essential
  • You must be able to listen to, and interact with children in a warm and sensitive manner
  • You must work well within our small team
  • You must be able to uphold pre-school policies in order to ensure the very highest of standards are being provided for our children

Personal qualities

  • Caring nature, good organisational and communication skills
  • You must be flexible, and the ability to model appropriate language
  • You must also be enthusiastic and show a willingness to learn
  • A motivated and co-do attitude with a desire to learn

  • Flexible and adaptable

Desired qualifications

You must have

  • 5 GCSEs A-C/9–4 to include maths and English or suitable alternatives
  • Full and relevant L2 qualification in Childcare

Future prospects

  • Possibilty of permanent employment
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Childcare
  • Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies

  • Public transport in Somerset is limited, please ensure you can travel to the employer
  • Job offers are subject to two references and DBS check
  • Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship. At least 20% of the total hours are to be spent off the job training
