Somerset Local Authorities’ Civil Contingencies Unit has two Civil Contingencies Officer posts available.
The five Somerset local authorities work together in partnership to deliver their responsibilities under the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) and other supporting legislation.
We are a busy team of resilience professionals. Our usual focus is ensuring that the local authorities are ready to respond to incidents affecting delivery of our critical services and those directly impacting our communities. Our current focus is about response to Covid-19. These fixed term appointments are intended to maintain capacity in the Unit during staffing changes and at a time of increased activity.
Here’s what you can expect to be doing
This is an opportunity for individuals with some knowledge or experience of emergency planning or related discipline to build on their experience.
Join us to support the ongoing response and recovery activities and to deliver or support the delivery of a range of emergency planning and preparedness projects building on the learning from the Covid-19 response.
You will come into contact with professionals from a wide range of specialisms across the Somerset local authorities and our partner agencies, adding value to our core emergency response and recovery capabilities.
A few things about you
You will have knowledge of emergency planning legislation, integrated emergency management and business continuity. You must be computer literate, with a drive to build on existing good practices. Previous experience of working in a partnership environment would be an advantage. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in a 24/7 duty on-call rota, for which payment will be made. .

The salary for this role is £22,183 to £25,481 per annum
