Dental Laboratory Manager

An exciting opportunity has come about for a Band 7 Dental Laboratory Manager at Musgrove Park Hospital. The post holder will manage and lead the delivery of technical services providing a range of highly specialised Orthodontic and Maxillofacial appliances to two sites; Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital.

The post holder will be required to support the Oral Surgery and Orthodontic Consultants with participation in the 3D orthognathic planning service. And support the oral and maxillofacial surgery team (dental trauma/splints/healing cover plates etc)

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team as well as provide training, guidance and advice to other laboratory staff. The post holder will be responsible for understanding and complying with Trust and Departmental policies and overseeing maintenance of all equipment within the Dental Laboratory.

Person specification


Essential criteria
  • Degree in Dental Technology or equivalent
  • Calibration in PAR scoring
  • Post graduate qualification in orthodontics or equivalent experience
  • General Dental Council registration
  • Good knowledge of all types of prosthetic appliance construction
  • Understanding and experience of working to COSHH and Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent knowledge of regulatory issues and quality assurance standards in the dental laboratory setting
  • Competent with IT and use of 3D planning technology
  • Experience managing a team and leading appraisals
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of working as a Dental Technician
  • Experience working in a hospital laboratory and knowledge of NHS policies
  • Experience in orthodontic technology and the fabrication of complex orthodontic appliances
  • Experience in orthognathic planning and wafer construction
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Evidence of a good standard of literacy/English language skills
  • Able to work on own initiative when planning and organising work and oversee work of team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise own work and work of team
  • Willingness to use technology to improve standards of care and support to our patients
Desirable criteria
  • Use of SAM articulator system
  • Use of CAD/CAM
