£29,261 – £32,368 (Shift allowances of £7,424 – £8,212pa. Total compensation £29,261 – £32,368 pa)

Your journey with us will start with a 4 to 6 weeks training course at Police Headquarters in Portishead, our inspiring team of dedicated trainers will teach you the skills you need to give expert advice to members of the public in the most critical situations.

You will need to be prepared to work a variety of shifts in both roles, of which will include a proportion of weekends, nights, and bank holidays (for example: 0700-1700, 1300-2300 & 2300-0700).

What we are looking for

You’ll need to be an excellent communicator, the kind of person who can empathise and a natural problem solver.  Previous experience within a customer service environment is great, but more importantly, we’re looking for dedicated team players with excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work efficiently and accurately.

Our recruitment process

Familiarisation Event– All applicants* will be invited to attend a Familiarisation Event, during this session you will learn more about the role and our expectations. This will be held virtually and is a mandatory part of the process. These will be held between Wednesday 29th June and Tuesday 12th July.

*Subject to meeting our eligibility criteria.

Assessment– You will be invited to undertake 3 assessment tasks, this will be at our Police Headquarters in Portishead. This is an opportunity for you to visit our offices and see our fantastic control room and facilities. These will be held between Wednesday 6th July and Tuesday 20th July.

Interview– If you pass the assessments, we will invite you to attend an interview, this will be held virtually. These will be held between Wednesday 13th July and Tuesday 27th July.


Additional information

  • We currently have vacancies for both Call Hander and Dispatcher roles and your application will be assessed for suitability across both positions through the recruitment process.
  • Please note, once appointed you cannot make an internal recruitment application to move from the post of Call Handler or Dispatcher within two years of the date of your appointment.
  • To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
