Somerset Sight is a small local charity that provides practical, social and emotional support to enable people with sight loss to adapt, remain independent and live a full and active life. We celebrated our 100 years anniversary in 2019, and were recently honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the impact we make in the local community.

Due to a staff member retiring this year, we are seeking an experienced Administrator to work co-operatively with other staff members, and cover a wide range of interesting tasks. This is a full time position Monday to Friday located at our offices in Taunton.

Salary £22K – £25K according to age and experience.

Tasks will include but not limited to:

  • Produce reports, letters and other communications as requested by CEO.
  • Maintain the CRM system and run reports
  • Plan and send mail shots (mail merge)
  • Organise various meetings and taking minutes when required.
  • Maintain and order stationery and provisions
  • Health and Safety – carry out audits and ensure all our H&S certificates are valid.
  • Cover reception and help with enquiries.
  • Enrol new In House volunteers
  • Support other staff with tasks as required.
  • Induction of new staff
  • Help with Social media and the website.
  • Manage the office premises

The role would suit a candidate who has several years of administration experience, a team player with a ‘can do’ attitude and willing to learn new skills.

You will be conscientious, adaptable, reliable, dependable, empathetic, with a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

General office experience and desirable skills to include:

  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written.
  • Good organisational skills
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Strong customer care
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Keen attention to detail, including accurate data entry skills and record keeping.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

It would also be beneficial if you have a drivers license.
