Facilities Assistant

The Facilities Management Team provides premises management, health, and safety statutory checks, assists with incident control, financial and procurement administration. We act as first point of contact for building users. We are a busy team, and each day brings interesting challenges and tasks.

We currently have 1 Full time position (37 hours a week) for an enthusiastic and motivated Facilities Assistant who is resilient, have excellent technical, administrative and customer service skills, and a natural problem solver to join out small, high profile facilities management team.

The role will be based predominantly at Bridgwater House which includes travel to offices in Burnham, Bridgwater, Taunton and West Somerset.

Although we are looking for someone who has experience in a health and safety environment or a similar role, we are seeking people with transferable skills and backgrounds.

Here’s what you can expect to be doing

You will be joining a small friendly team of staff providing a caretaking and basic maintenance and repairs service, as well as admin support across our facilities management sites. As a Facilities Assistant your varied duties will include:

• Weekly Health and Safety Tours, Legionella checks, emergency lighting checks, panic alarm testing, fire alarm testing and evac chair checks

• Providing front office cover support for Facilities Management – answering phones, emails, and walk-in enquiries from internal customers.

• Caretaking duties – including regular health and safety checks and assisting with Incident control.

• Carrying out portering duties, such as moving furniture.

A few things about you

• You’ll have experience in a similar role, with basic building maintenance knowledge.

• You’ll be available to respond to out of hours call outs and to work across sites in Taunton, Bridgwater, Shepton Mallet and Yeovil when required.

• You’ll take pride in your work, have great work ethic and want to play your part in creating a welcoming and safe environment.

• You’ll have experience of using Word, Excel and Outlook.


Additional information

Experience in a health and safety environment or premises management role is preferred but not essential as training will be given.

From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority – Somerset Council. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.

The salary for this role is £18,887 – £19,264 per annum.
