Health Promotion Manager – Resettlement
This is an exciting opportunity to join a unique service which supports refugees resettled in Somerset. The Resettlement Team supports individuals and families for up to five years, who have been displaced and who are part of the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) or the United Kingdom Resettlement Scheme (UKRS). These schemes are delivered in partnership with the Home Office, United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees, and regional Migration Partnership.
Resettlement first began in Somerset in 2016 and works to empower, advocate for, and educate refugees in our care as they learn to build new lives in the UK.
We are looking for an experienced manager who is able to work calmly in a changing environment with flexibility, creativity, and a positive leadership approach.
This is a full-time permanent post. Flexible working can be explored, including some remote working, but you will need to have access to a car and to travel around Somerset, when required. Occasional evening or weekend work may also be required.
Here’s what you can expect to be doing
You will have line management responsibility for 4-8 staff who support diverse caseloads across the county. You will provide direction, guidance and leadership in an ever-changing environment.
With your Line Manager and the Finance Officer, you will monitor the Resettlement budget and develop spending plans, with an annual budget up to £300,000.
You will be responsible for completing reports and evaluations, inputting into processes and decision-making for affected populations at a local level.
You will ensure the Resettlement service’s compliance with Somerset County Council’s policies and procedures, always upholding and promoting the aims of the Council in all you do.
You will work closely with the Resettlement Co-ordinator to identify prospective landlords suitable for the Resettlement schemes. This will include ensuring that properties are ready for new arrivals.
You will incorporate service user feedback into service planning and improvement, and work alongside commissioned providers to monitor and evaluate the delivery of key projects and services for resettled people.
You will represent Somerset County Council at local and regional forums related to refugee resettlement, when required, promoting the needs of resettled people and strengthening existing networks.
You will participate in relevant training, workshops, and professional development, sharing best practice with the wider Resettlement Team.
You will accept responsibility for special projects or areas of work as directed by the Line Manager.
A few things about you
You will have demonstrable management experience in an operational setting, preferably with migrant, vulnerable, and/or excluded populations.
Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing needs of the service is a necessary part of the role, including the ability to adapt to unexpected situations in a professional manner.
You will have excellent communication skills, able to adapt and to communicate clearly with a wide range of audiences.
You will have experience of multi-agency work and will be able to evidence an understanding of how to work effectively alongside a diverse range of providers.
You will be a creative problem solver, looking for new and innovative ways to meet the needs of the service.
You will be organised, able to prioritise competing demands, to delegate appropriately, and to work to deadlines.
You will be able to evidence an ongoing commitment to professional development.
You will be confident using all Microsoft systems
Somerset County Council is subject to Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English will be an essential requirement for customer-facing roles.
