Lead Advisory Teacher – Post 16
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Somerset County Council Virtual School & Learning Support Team for a Post-16 Lead Advisory Teacher to join our team.
Somerset Virtual School and Learning Support Team is a multi-professional team, with two key areas of focus. As a Virtual School, our role is to promote the educational attainment of Children Looked After by the local authority. As such we work alongside schools, colleges, social care colleagues, and advisory teams to ensure our Children Looked After can achieve well.
The Learning Support Team complements this offer by supporting our schools and settings to be inclusive through fulfilling their statutory SEND duties, and removing barriers for all learners.
Here’s what you can expect to be doing
Our offer for Post-16 young people has evolved over the year, and we now have two education officers who, alongside a team of advisory teachers, support Post-16 Children Looked After. We are looking for a Lead Advisory Teacher (Post-16) to lead the strategic development of this area, resulting in reduced NEETs, improved outcomes, and greater engagement for our post-16 cohort.
You will be an integral part of the Leadership Team of the Virtual School Learning Support Team. You will lead on liaison with a range of partners, including colleges, and support the whole team to provide quality advice and options for Post-16 young people. You may be expected to attend PEP meetings for complex cases, and work with a range of professionals to secure positive outcomes for our young people.
This is a full-time post, offered on teachers’ pay and conditions, either main pay scale or upper pay scale depending on experience. This post will be countywide and some out of county travel may be necessary.
What we can offer you…
- The opportunity to create and shape the future of the post-16 offer
- Teachers’ pay and conditions and teachers’ pension
- A supportive and dedicated team including business support
- Blended working arrangements to include home and office-based time
We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, within a team who are passionate about the work that they do to improve the lives of young people in Somerset. We’re supporting blended working arrangements and our offices meet the Covid-19 Secure standards. We’re using risk assessments and, where needed, PPE to protect our employees.
Good technology is provided to help you stay connected to your team and manager through virtual meetings, team check-ins and service sessions.
A few things about you
You will be passionate about inclusive practices and promoting the education, achievement, and wellbeing of Children Looked After across Somerset. You will be proud of your profession, and able to reflect and think creatively about how you can make a difference to the vulnerable young people you are working to support.
As a qualified teacher, you will have significant experience of working with young people with SEND and care experienced learners. Ideally you will have education leadership experience, giving you the skills, confidence and credibility to work effectively with other education leaders, and senior managers from a range of agencies. Experience of working with young people in a college environment would be an advantage, as would knowledge and/or experience of implementing the SEND Code of Practice and Education Health and Care Plans.
