Learning Disabilities Support Worker

Are you ready to REALISE your potential, transforming care for people with learning disabilities? Are you considering this role for the first time or perhaps an experienced Support Worker ready for a new challenge? Then this role could be perfect for you!

Realise South West, is our award winning specialist learning disabilities service providing essential LD care to individuals in need of support in their own homes. We’re looking to expand our team of Learning Disabilities Support Workers in the Highbridge area, close to Bridgwater.

As a Support Worker you’ll be joining a fantastic team committed to empowering those with challenging behaviours and/or mental illness. It’s so important for us to make a difference to people’s lives, support and encourage their independence and enable them to lead fulfilling lifestyles.

It’s what we do best. You’ll provide high quality person centred care, tailored to the needs of each individual. From domestic duties, personal care and medication to emotional support, social interaction or accompanying customers to their appointments, the care plans are all tailored to the individual. The one thing that remains the same however, is the exceptional customer care we always promise to deliver.

Often our customers require two to one care, so you will work alongside your colleagues to provide continuity in care that supports their overall wellbeing.

The Hours

We have day and night shifts available which consist of full time and part time shifts

(including some weekends). The option of Sleep In shifts is also available. If you’ve got flexibility in your working week then we can discuss various shift patterns with you so please do give us a call.

About you

If you don’t have experience with Learning Disabilities or Mental Health support for adults or children, either through employment or your own personal experiences then we can help you. We have fantastic training available and career pathways to develop you right rom day one, working with you to gain recognised care certificates such as NVQ or CQF

Behaviour is often a way of communicating, so one of your most successful skills will be the ability to engage, listen and communicate with people successfully in a variety of ways. Importantly you’ll understand and be prepared to learn the complexity of working with challenging behaviours and understand the need to be highly flexible, adaptable and resilient, which in return will unlock an incredibly rewarding career for you. Most of all you’’ll be warm hearted, friendly and have a natural desire to help. You’ll be a real ‘people person’, able to build lasting relationships and of course work well in a team.

Being a Carer isn’t a job, it’s naturally who you are. Your instinct to care, offer compassion and show kindness is inherent within you. You will love caring for vulnerable people and appreciate the priceless impact your assistance has on those you help.
