Maintenance Technician Mechanical
The Estates & Facilities Directorate at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a technically competent, qualified and motivated Estates Mechanical Technician (Band 5).
You will be required to take one of the lead roles as part of the mechanical maintenance team and water safety providing front line delivery of maintenance, defect & Breakdown response and Pre-Planned maintenance tasks to contribute to the delivery of effective, efficient and economical day-to-day maintenance, new and alteration works to ensure the safety of patients, staff and members of the public.
To act as the primary lead for water safety maintenance including, managing staff responsible for water safety planned preventative maintenance & any resulting remedial works.
Main duties of the job
Undertaking water safety system maintenance, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures. An element of multi-skilling across Estates trades will be required.
To work in accordance with the statutory requirements of Health Technical Memorandums on HTM 06-03, Washer Disinfector HTM 2030, Sterilization HTM2010 (CFPPO – 101), MGPS HTM 02 and Water Supplies HTM 2027 HTM 03- 01 Heating And Ventilation HTM 04-01 Safe Water In Healthcare Premises and BOAS. To work in accordance with the Trust’s Permit to Work (PTW) systems for Potentially Dangerous Plant, Confined Spaces, and Laboratory Working. Ensuring NO public access to dangerous areas by securing work area and displaying appropriate signage warning of danger. This can be supported by verbal communication.
To undertake risk assessments as required for work in hazardous areas taking account of all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment. Undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to promptly. During these periods the post holder may be required to carry out work of a nature that is not their core trade.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Completed time served Recognised apprenticeship preferably indentured of at least 4 years or
- Completion of a structured training program in mechanical engineering for a minimum period of 4 years
- Knowledge of:-Mechanical Distribution, Steam, HVAC, Building Management Systems
- A high degree of accuracy required during test procedures with the ability to ensure attention to detail when compiling verbal and written reports
- Willingness to undertake training including self-directed study
- Numerate and literate
- Basic Level ICT
- Knowledge of NHS legislation, including confidentiality, health and safety, manual handling and data protection, Electrical HTM guidance.
