Patient Safety & Governance Manager

£38,890 plus a Recruitment Allowance of £3,231 per annum for up to 3 years

Somerset County Council covers a large geographical county with urban centres, market towns as well as vast rural areas.  The 2018 Somerset population was approximately 560,000 people and this is expected to grow by 6% by 2028, with the 65+ group expected to increase by 23%.  The county encompasses four district councils and shares its boundary with a single Clinical Commissioning Group.

Here’s what you can expect to be doing

You will provide specialist advice on implementation of national guidance, directives and legislation related to improving patient safety and reducing harm. You will work with Operational services on implementation of local and national patient safety initiatives, including the dissemination and monitoring of impact of NICE guidance.  Supporting the Head of Service and CQC registered managers, you will help ensure compliance with relevant CQC standards in relation to Patient Safety.

There is a requirement to provide patient safety and governance advice to support the service transformation across Public Health Operations and to chair and co-ordinate the Public Health Nursing ‘Best Practice group’.  In addition, you will represent all operational services on the Public Health Clinical Governance Group, including producing reports and audit updates.

The role will include service wide training so that all staff understand their responsibilities regarding patient safety and can use the SCC processes.  You will ensure that there is high level learning from incidents and serious incidents and that reporting gives an open, transparent and accurate picture of the quality of care, while providing assurance around improvement actions where required.

A few things about you

We’re looking for someone who is experienced in leading the development and delivery of robust clinical governance processes with either; Nursing, Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) qualifications on the NMC register or an Allied Health Professional. You will have knowledge and expertise in clinical governance processes, including safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and inspiring high clinical and public health standards of practice.

You will have demonstrable experience of leading governance processes, focused on improving outcomes for children and young people. It is vital for this role that you have proven experience in working in partnership and building relationships with a range of services both within public health and the wider system e.g. education, children social care. Positive, committed, adaptable and thorough, you’ll naturally act as a role model.
