Press Officer

Reporting into the PR Marketing Manager you will be critical in supporting the PR team and the running of the Screwfix press office. You will be responsible for building and sustaining Screwfix’s brand image through planned publicity campaigns and public relations (PR) activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager in the development, execution and reporting of campaign activity
  • Writing copy and press releases, working with key stakeholders across Screwfix and the wider group
  • Assist with briefing of campaigns
  • Update and monitor the marketing/activity plans for the team
  • Communicate PR activity to key contributors and stakeholders
  • Communication of The Screwfix Foundation to the general public through PR activity.
  • Analysis of PR activity
  • Produce and present PR/Campaign results as and when required
  • Work closely with key journalists to obtain coverage
  • Support store launches through PR activity
  • Ensure that all marketing schedules are updated with Screwfix activities and that key milestones are being met
  • Support with Internal and External Crisis Management communication
  • Manage The Screwfix Foundation social accounts
  • Support the Campaign Co-ordinator with the Screwfix Foundation including emails and application reviews.
  • Manage the Screwfix media centre, adding all press releases and ensuring the site is user friendly.

Required Skills and Experience

    • Journalism/external communications background is essential
    • Previous experience in writing and a creative flair is essential
    • Experience within a fast-paced and deadline driven environment is essential
    • Word press experience is essential
    • Experience in a wide range of communication methods (including face to face, telephone, in writing and social media) is essential
    • Experience in the use of PowerPoint, Excel and Microsoft Word is essential – including experience of creating presentations from scratch, using basic formulas and formatting Word documents
    • Proven experience in multi-tasking a changing workload is essential
    • Prior experience in marketing, campaigns or events is not essential but would be an advantage
    • Previous adobe experience is desirable
