The Principal Social Worker role is a genuinely unique opportunity in any social worker’s career. Introduced following the Munro review of Child Protection in 2011, the role calls for a single minded focus on developing positive organisational learning culture, improving the quality of social work practice, and ensuring that leaders within Children’s Services are in touch with the challenges faced by front line social workers.

Core responsibilities…

  • You will listen to the voice of social work colleagues and ensure that their views are heard at a senior organisational level.
  • You will have responsibility for the Children’s Learning and Development Team, ensuring that the training offer in Somerset is of the highest standard, and is mapped to the development needs of the workforce.
  • You will lead the work of the Consultant Social Worker group, ensuring that newly qualified social workers in Somerset receive the best quality support via our highly rated Social Work Academy.
  • Importantly, you will take a lead role in ensuring that the Somerset recruitment and retention offer supports Somerset being the employer of choice in the South West.

A few things about you

You’ll be an experienced children’s social worker or manager who has ambition, confidence and high practice standards.

You will be motivated by the goal of continually improving the quality of outcomes for children in Somerset.

You will need to be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England and have substantial experience working with children and families in social work.

Salary £50,881 per annum (inclusive of a £9,000 recruitment allowance).
