Senior Development Infrastructure Officer

Somerset is a great place to live, work and play, boasting plenty of beautiful sites – in villages and market towns – with a rich heritage of history and legend. Infrastructure is at the heart of our ambitions to support productivity and innovation.

We host the largest infrastructure project in Europe, Hinkley Point C, and we have over £50m of major highway projects in progress, with more planned. Highways play an essential role in our ambitions. We’re a rural county with the tenth largest road network in the country. As the highways authority, we look after 6,600km of road, 2,000 bridges, 900km of ditches, 120,000 gullies and 52,000 street lights. This network is growing too, with 9km of new highway every year, 9,500 planning applications every year and 700+ live development sites at any one time

Here’s what you can expect to be doing

Reporting to the Principal Development Infrastructure Officer within the Development Engineering Team you will manage and oversee the implementation of developer led and third-party highway infrastructure delivery projects through effective technical administration of legal agreements and licences. You will be the principal point of contact for developers, designers, contractors, interest groups and members of the public with respect to specific developers, development portfolios and/or key development sites.

You will provide a key role in ensuring the progression of legal agreements through to completion of the infrastructure which will involve investigation, liaison with multiple teams internal to the Council, liaison with multiple parties external to the Council and prepare detailed correspondence and reports. You will also be expected to support colleagues in the preparation of financial accounts principally relating to fee income, cash bonds, commuted sums and contributions.

We recognise the importance of a good work life balance and do everything we can to accommodate flexible working, including some working from home, compressed hours, and other arrangements such as job share opportunities. Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process (and beyond) if these are options you’d like to explore.

A few things about you

You will have proven experience in a project or legal agreement management role with direct relationships with the customer or end user.
