Senior Ecological Consultant

Senior Ecological Consultant

The team at Quantock Ecology are recruiting for a Senior Ecological Consultant.

Sure, we could reel off a list of what your day would look like if you joined us, but what we would rather tell you about is the awesome team you’d be joining – because we know, like you, that the team you work with makes up a huge part of your job satisfaction.

Firstly, you have Simon, the gaffer. Not one to micromanage or bark orders, he’s the type of boss who gets that your development and growth depend on you being given the freedom to make good decisions. That said as Principal Ecologist he’s a brilliant mentor who will ensure you have the guidance you need to grow within your role.

Then we have Shellie, our admin ninja. Shellie is the glue which holds us together and often, the first port of call for prospective clients. Shellie is responsible for allocating jobs and tasks to the team and providing invaluable support in terms of tracking job progress and giving us a gentle nudge when it comes to deadlines being met.

Our current team of ecologists each have their own areas of interest. Alex and Ella are very much bat focused, with Ella having started with us after a placement year from Reading Uni. Tom (aka Fish) is our resident newt expert and marine biologist. Anything water related and Tom’s there. Indie is our newest recruit and a keen botanist, having joined us as an assistant just a few months ago. Each year, we also happily accommodate a university student on placement and often, support senior school students on work experience.

Finally, we have Frank, the Office Manager – Frank loves a bum scratch (please don’t be alarmed he’s a Pug x Poodle, not a strange man).

Together we make a brilliant team, supporting one another, celebrating each other’s success and we’re looking for someone to join who values a great working environment.

And then, possibly you?

You’re an Ecological Consultant or currently a Senior Ecologist with industry experience who is keen to learn and progress in your career. As a team player you will be someone who can undertake an array of ecological surveys, report writing, project management and providing support to other team members. We’d like our new team member to have a valid bat survey licence (level 2 or above), hold membership with CIEEM (or equivalent body) and hold a full UK driving license. You would also be expected to have experience acting as construction works supervising ecologist (ECoW) and delivering a variety of ecological mitigation plans for habitats and protected species.

Better still, if you have experience in compiling/submitting European Protected Species Mitigation Licences, are a registered consultant under the Bat Mitigation Class Licence system, or Experience in bat sound analysis software (Kaleidoscope Pro) – then this would be great!

In return we offer £28,000 – £34,000 per annum (depending on your level of experience). Hybrid working with flexible working hours. Overtime for “out of hours” bat surveys. We also offer 25 days holiday PLUS bank holidays, along with private healthcare and options to join schemes such as ‘Cycle to Work’.

So, if you are ready to join possibly the friendliest Ecology Team in the South West, then why not send a copy of your CV to and lets have a chat about your potential next move.
