Somerset County Council are recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor in Taunton.
Somerset County Council is offering a great opportunity to join the Major Projects team responsible for delivering high profile construction schemes throughout the County. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated quantity surveyor professional.
The Major Projects team is currently working on over £130m of schemes in a variety of sectors such as education and commercial. Together we provide advice and support to a range of service areas in relation to future and ongoing construction schemes.
The quantity surveyor will support the Major Projects team and provide high-level financial advice and support to key stakeholders, including Assistant Directors and Strategic Managers within the Council. This is an extremely rewarding and interesting position with many benefits and opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing tender and contract documentation with the assigned Project Manager
- Managing tender processes
- Providing commercial and contract management
- Providing QS duties on contracts and managing external quantity surveyors
- Advising on commercial governance, procedures, processes and systems
- Advising on procurement frameworks and processes
- Frameworks management
To be suitable for the role you need to be knowledgeable and have experience in procurement, commercial management, framework management and contract management. You will be digitally savvy, can build lasting stakeholder relationships and be self-motivated as part of a small team.
You will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant quantity surveying/cost management role, degree qualified or equivalent, stable career history and a member of the CIOB/RICS (or working towards).
The Council has an ambition and culture for flexible working which has been enhanced as a result of COVID-19. You will be based in Taunton with flexibility to work from home and other locations. You must be prepared to travel to different locations in Somerset and on occasions further afield.
