Service Improvement Officer
Somerset County Council have an exciting opportunity for a Service Improvement Officer to join a small but passionate team with the clear aim of driving practice improvement via the development and implementation of creative, strengths based, system wide quality assurance activity.

Key purpose of the role…
To co-ordinate quality assurance activity that will support the learning of peers as well as measure the impact of new programmes, initiatives and ways of working. You will be intrinsic in shaping the culture of the team, who work collaboratively with the wider service to support change and practice improvements.
Lead the development, delivery and implementation of service improvements ensuring that strategic links are made with other services and appropriate partnership agencies and ensuring the change is embedded across the service
Design, implement and maintain management systems and processes to develop and ensure a continuous improvement culture across Children’s Services.
Support inspection and planning activity and monitor the delivery of identified action plans arising from audit, review and inspection activity.
Liaison with colleagues in Education, Inclusion, Early Help and Adult Services to ensure co-ordination and alignment of policies.
Critically appraise practice, systems, processes and procedures and offer advice on re-engineering and organisational design to maximise outputs and outcomes.
Ensure that all learning from complaints, participation, exit interviews, and other sources are captured and considered by Performance Management forums alongside more formal sources such as audit reports and performance data.

What we’re looking for…
You will be passionate about supporting the learning of others and building relationships with peers, to improve services for children across Somerset. We are looking for an individual who will take people along the improvement journey with them, pushing through barriers and offering challenge when needed. You will need to communicate information and learning to colleagues clearly, using public speaking skills.
You will have excellent organisational skills and a willingness to learn. Solid data management experience is preferred (although not essential) in order to utilise this information to understand and influence overall service quality. Knowledge of Children’s Services, particularly social care, is also required.
The Service Improvement team are based in Taunton although we are very open to flexible working options. As Taunton is the county town, transport links are great, with easy access to the M5, less than two hours by train to London and 40 minutes’ drive in each direction to Bristol and Exeter.

The salary range for this role is £34,728 to £38,890 per annum
As this role is customer facing you will need to speak fluent English.
