We have a 22.5 hours per week opportunity for a Support & Communications Officer.

The Mendip Hills AONB Unit aims to conserve and enhance the nationally designated landscape of the Mendip Hills.  The Unit has a Manager, who you will be responsible to, Project Development Officer, Landscape Planning Officer, Ranger Volunteer Coordinator and fifty+ volunteers.

The Unit runs a variety of core work and projects that conserve and enhance the landscape. Much of our work involves communicating through different means with people.  The Mendip Hills AONB Unit is funded by DEFRA, Somerset County Council, Bath & North East Somerset Council, North Somerset Council, Mendip District Council and Sedgemoor District Council and is hosted by Somerset County Council.

Here’s what you can expect to be doing

Provide AONB Unit with financial management. Act as a central point of contact for all information. Provide administrative and general support associated with the work of the AONB office. Assist the AONB Manager with the development, implementation and regular review of the AONB Units communication strategy.

Raise awareness of the AONB by coordinating the promotion of and distribution of AONB publications including books, visitor guides, walks guides and Partnership documents including Guidance and Position Statements and other promotional materials, eg banners, posters, etc.

A few things about you

Good understanding of financial processes and budgetary software. Excellent planning and organising skills, with the ability to take the initiative. Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise effectively. Ability to work in a small team and provide support to a range of roles. Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a wide range of people.

Flexible approach to new ideas and initiatives. Demonstrates sound decision-making and comes up with solutions to problems without having to rely on others. Takes ownership of issues and sees them through to conclusion. Identifies ways to improve services and performance
