Team Manager Safeguarding
Fixed term contract/Secondment Opportunity for 12 months.
The remuneration package for this role is £28,953 per annum (remuneration package includes a £3,040 recruitment allowance per annum for up to 3 years).
Somerset County Council has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Team Manager (22.5 hours) within our Wider Safeguarding Team in Sedgemoor.
In Wider Safeguarding, we support a range of families.
Lots of our work is with children who are experiencing exploitation. We work with multi-agency partners to disrupt exploitation and offer positive activities and support for young people, and work with parents and carers to keep those children at home with their families. The foundations of all this work are relationship-based and strengths-based practice and we pride ourselves on doing this well.
We also work with lots of families where parents have additional learning needs. We are excited about developments in practice in this area, including discussions about a new parenting assessment model and work to make our plans and documents accessible and understandable for parents. We have received some good feedback from the courts about our work in this area but also work hard to support families without needing to go to court.
We have seen a high level of need in Wider Safeguarding in Sedgemoor over the last 12 months, and are piloting an additional part-time Team Manager post to meet the increased demand. This pilot will run over the next 12 months, at which time a decision will be made regarding the permanent future of the role.
Here’s what you can expect to be doing
You will be working alongside a permanent experienced Team Manager: if you are new to management, or new to the service area, this will be an excellent development opportunity.
Why this role? What our young people say they want is ‘A good social worker is someone you can build a strong relationship with. And they are always there to listen, even when it is difficult to do so’. ‘Compassion, Care and Consistency’ are important to them.
A few things about you
Our Wider Safeguarding Team is proud of its learning culture: if you are passionate about developing your practice and supporting others to do the same, you will fit right in! We want you to be creative, coming up with new ideas about how we can support children and their families, and we want you to be confident about sharing that creativity with others.
Relationship-based practice, strengths-based practice, and systemic principles are key in our practice model as an authority – if this describes the way you work, we want to hear from you!
This post would suit an experienced social worker wanting to take the next step in their career, as well as those who are already in existing management positions. You will be educated to degree level in Social Work, and registered as a Social Worker with Social Work England. You will hold a full driving licence and have access to your own vehicle as travel is required.
In Somerset, we are moving forward with a hybrid working model. Whilst this role will involve some working from home, you will also need to live within travelling distance of the office base in Bridgwater, in order to spend time working alongside the team on a weekly basis.
We would love to hear from you if you think this could be the role for you, so for an informal chat please contact Carrie Grant, email: CGrant@somerset.gov.uk or call: 07976 693481.
