Waiting List Assistant

To be part of a team responsible for the co-ordination, organisation and management of an elective waiting list service ensuring excellent patient care within a highly pressurised work environment.

(37.5 hrs x 2, 25 hrs x 1)

Main duties of the job


To schedules patients into appropriate theatre & endoscopy lists ensuring all essential booking information is followed, there is a suitable anaesthetist and surgeon, all equipment is available and present, any special requests are made along with meeting the patients social needs and availability.

To schedules patients balancing clinical priority and service requirements against the need to achieve national wait time standards.

Qualifications, training and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent, or demonstrate relevant experience.
  • Good standard of education up to GCSE or O’level (A-C) Standard
  • Computer/Word processing qualification or EDCL
  • NVQ customer care/Service
  • Good Knowledge of the Trust Electronic patient record system or similar
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications such as Word and Excel
  • Basic Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience and understanding of waiting lists
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills via telephone, email and face-to-face
Desirable criteria
  • Supervisory/ management experience
  • Management of elective waiting lists or similar
